Practical astronomy learning
Astro Academy
Interactive learning tools that turn astronomy concepts into practical observing skills. Start with Star Hopper and learn to navigate the real night sky without relying on GoTo.
Star Hopper
Learn to move from bright naked-eye stars to clusters and asterisms using the same visual landmarks and field-of-view steps you would use at a manual telescope, finder or binoculars.
- Real celestial coordinates and Canvas sky projection
- Practice and Challenge training modes
- Naked-eye, finder, binocular and low-power telescope views
- Southern-sky routes, compact asterisms and Tonight's Challenge
Learning the Sky
Recognise anchor stars, constellations and useful naked-eye asterisms including the False Cross and the Teapot.
Easy Deep Sky
Practise finder and binocular routes to showpiece clusters, plus compact asterisms such as Stargate and the Coathanger.
Nebula Hunter
Navigate denser Milky Way star fields and learn repeatable routes to bright nebulae.
Galaxy Hunter
Use subtler guide-star patterns and narrower fields to locate more challenging galaxies.
